Adding uPVC windows to your property brings so many advantages with it. For many homeowners, the most notable benefit is the financial savings from reduced fuel bills – in fact it’s possible save up to £165 a year according to the Energy Saving Trust. The design of double glazed windows means that they are more effective at insulating your home compared to single glazing, therefore preventing heat from being wasted. Up to 20% of your home’s heat can be lost through single glazing, so by generating less heat, you’ll be spending less money. It will also mean that your home has a smaller carbon footprint; a positive benefit for the environment. Double glazed windows are a worthwhile investment, with typical windows lasting for at least twenty years.

What’s going on with Double Glazing in Selkirkshire?

An infamous cockerel in Selkirk has been moved into his very own soundproof henhouse. Charlie the cockerel is owned by Kenneth Williamson and has regularly disturbed neighbours and local residents. He now has his very own double glazed home after a Galashiels based conservatory company stepped in to help. The hut itself is insulated with top-of-the-range materials and it is hoped that it will bring peace back to the area. Many residents were in support of Kenneth and Charlie, stating that traffic in the area in fact caused more noise pollution than the cockerel.

Meanwhile, Selkirkshire councillor Carolyn Riddell-Carre has stated that twenty-five per cent of new houses should be affordable in order to cater for lower income families. Mrs Riddell-Carre also announced that she believed it was unfair for owners of listed buildings or those in conservation areas to have to replace rotting sash and case wooden-framed windows with “like-for-like”, when developments in double glazing had come a long way in the last twenty years. She believes that owners of such properties should have the freedom to install aesthetically pleasing double glazing should they wish.
