Energy bills seem to increase every year, so it’s no wonder that more and more homeowners are looking for energy saving ideas to help lower their bills. One of the most effective and simplest methods available is double glazing; and by installing it, you can reduce your heating bills by up to £165 a year according to the Energy Saving Trust. Homeowners with single glazed windows in their properties could be losing up to 20% of heat generated, meaning that money is spent on heat that is simply wasted. Double glazed glass is much more effective at insulating, and therefore retains more heat in your home. Typically, new uPVC windows will last for at least twenty years, so there are plenty of savings to benefit you over the years to come.

What’s happening with Double Glazing in Morayshire?

A selection of architects from Morayshire recently submitted designs into a competition aimed at celebrating innovation and cutting-edge architecture. Awards in five categories were presented at Elgin’s St Giles Centre. One local architect, Nicole Edmonds from Edge, was delighted to have won two awards. One of her awards was for a ‘new life for old buildings’ category, in which she transformed a semi-detached house, which had been untouched since it was built in 1953. With a tight budget of £45,000, Nicole carried out essential rewiring, installed an efficient heating system and insulation. Inside the house, she opened up the rooms to allow them to flow easily into one another. The entry was fairly surprising as the external look of the house remained as it had originally, except for the addition of double glazed windows, a new door and two roof lights. The competition was deemed to have been a great success and it is hoped that it will run again in 2013.
